The teachings of Shadow Yoga are drawn from the ancient Hatha Yoga texts and have been developed by Sundernath and Emma Balnaves, the founders of this school, over three decades. It cultivates the physical strength and mental responsiveness for the practices found in these texts.
The three preludes, Balakrama (stepping to strength), Chaya Yoddha Sancalanam (Churning the Shadow Warrior) and Kartikkeya Mandalam (Garland of Light) are the starting point on this journey. They develop strength, resilience, and flexibility and introduce the first steps of coordinating movement and breath.
The Nrtta Sadhana practices refine coordination, awareness and rhythm. They provide the keys to the more internal practices of Hatha Yoga.
With practices suitable for all levels including complete beginners, Shadow Yoga provides a clear step by step approach to this ancient discipline.
